When two oceans meet, a Blak Wave is formed.

Blak Wave is an independent production company based in Bristol, created by Michael Jenkins and Somina 'Mena' Fombo. We are  committed to producing film and TV that better reflects our society, giving a voice to unheard voices and telling untold stories. At Blak Wave we are motivated to create character driven content that is fresh, imaginative and representative. Passionate about literally changing the face of TV and film, we focus on creating entertaining, emotional and compelling stories across documentary, factual and drama. 


Michael Jenkins

Michael Jenkins is co-founder of Blak Wave Productions, a self shooting producer, director and writer of tv & film. He is motivated to bring untold and unheard stories to as wide an audience as possible. He has won multiple awards including Best Short film for ‘Check the Label’ at The Royal Television Society Awards 2018 and two BBC Local Radio Gillard Awards for Diversity and Community. He recently directed ‘The Shadow of Slavery’, as part of the Channel 4 series ‘Take your knee off my neck’ and also a short spoken word film for BBC Arts called ‘We are not virus’ and will soon release the BFI funded drama 'Pickney'. He was voted one of the most influential people in the Bristol BME Powerleist 2018.

SOMINA aka Dr Mena Fombo

SOMINA aka Dr Mena Fombo is co founder of Blak Wave Productions. A producer / director, passionate about telling authentic stories and exploring themes centring black womxn, people of colour and sport. Her previous work includes drama shorts, Exec Producer for series of BBC CiN shorts and Dir for upcoming BBC Education series. Most recently creating Home Carnival Queen for BBC Arts, she currently in production of a new doc focusing queer black womxn throughout British history. Dr Mena is also a Global speaker, equality, diversity and inclusion consultant working across the creative industry clients include Technicolour and Aardman Animations. In 2019 she was voted Bristol woman of the year by Bristol 247.
